When in nature, many people wonder what else, besides shish kebabs and sausages, can be prepared in a simple and interesting way. We offer you a simple, but rarely tried and tested, option - making a stew in a campfire. Of course, you can also use the grill, as long as you bring it along.
This kind of stew allows you to improvise: add your favourite vegetables, spices, meat, chicken - whatever you have and whatever you want. Each diner can even gather his or her favourite combinations - just like making a pizza. Children and adults alike are eager to get involved, whether it's gathering the ingredients, wrapping them in foil or baking them. You can be sure that your little ones will not leave the campfire and will enjoy their dinner.
Ingredients
- Pork - ideal for spareribs.
- Various vegetables - peppers, courgettes, onions, cauliflower, aubergines, carrots, cooked beans - whatever you like. Even frozen vegetables and kits will do.
- Your favourite spices, garlic (don't spare it), pepper, salt, your favourite herbs
- A dash of oil/butter
- Mustard, favourite sauce (optional)
- Foil
Production
- Cut the pork into coarse pieces, season with salt and pepper and leave to marinate for at least a few hours.
- Wrap the meat in foil with the vegetables and the spices, oil, garlic or sauce. The wrapped pieces should contain 2-3 portions per person. Do not spare the foil.
- If you are cooking in the open air, without a grill, dig into the ground under the fire and cover with coals. Do not put it on the highest heat: the foil-wrapped ingredients should warm up slowly and for a long time. You may not cook if the heat is more or less equal on all sides of the foil.
- If you are grilling, cook on indirect heat, at a maximum temperature of 150 degrees. At the end of the baking process, you can open the foil packet to allow the surface of the vegetables to crisp up slightly. There is no need to open the sachet
Tips
- If you want to maximise the richness of the flavour, roast them briefly over direct heat/flame before wrapping them in foil.
- Do not spare the foil. If you are going to cook on direct heat all the time (e.g. on a barbecue grill), turn the foil packet over every 5-10 minutes.
- You can wrap various combinations of vegetables, meat, poultry in foil. Even shrimps or other seafood. This is another option for easy and improvised preparation of delicious food in the great outdoors or even at home
Delicious!
