The afternoon of 3 July was a little different from usual at our Grill Centre  People flocked to the shop to hear not only tips on how to choose a grill, but also interesting information on olive oil, salt and pepper.

Our grill expert Audrius Blinstrubas told the guests how to choose the best grill for their needs, explained the differences between electric, charcoal and gas grills, and listed their advantages and disadvantages.

The introduction to grills was followed by an olive oil tasting seminar by Liana Davletshina, the only olive oil sommelier in Lithuania. The Italian Taste Gourmets shop and the olive oil school The founder of "Tikrasaliejus.lt" talked about how to recognise quality olive oil and demolished widely spread myths.

According to Liana, the label alone will not give you information about the oil - it must be tasted to understand if it is truly quality. A quality oil has the pleasant aftertaste of freshly cut grass or vegetables and fruit, does not leave an unpleasant greasy feeling and does not tickle the throat. AThe bitterness and spiciness of the olive oil indicate that it is made from raw, unripe olives, which means that it contains the most valuable substances and antioxidants.

Liana also debunked the myth of frying - olive oil is indeed good for frying. When choosing olive oil for frying, she said, it is important to pay attention to the acidity. The lower the acidity, the more antioxidants will be present in the oil itself, which will prevent the formation of dangerous carcinogens during frying.

The Olive Oil Sommelier also presented some of the world's top-rated olive oils, which are now available in the Griliai.lt shop and on the website. Olive oils "Bio" and "Delicate" are from the Italian farm Frantoio Franci, which is the world's oil guide Flos Olei 2019 was ranked the best olive oil farm in the world (99/100 points) by Flos Olive Oil Guide 2019. Olive oils from Spain were also showcased, with the best mildly fruity single-varietal olive oil in the world, according to Flos Olei 2017 "Arbequina" from the farm "Finca la Gramanosa" and one of the best olive oils in the world according to Flos Olei 2018with a score of 99/100 - "Hajiblanca" from the farm 'Finca la Torre'.
