For many Kaunas residents, Obelynė is an undiscovered place. It is the homestead of the famous naturalist and founder of the Zoological Museum, Tadas Ivanauskas. Over the years, many plants, both local and from far away, have been planted and arranged in a large plot of land.
The long-cherished garden and park has been neglected for a long time, and only Kaunas Academy Community Centre, project 2022, this unique homestead is finally being resurrected and opened to visitors. So on a beautiful Saturday morning, the organisers invited all the neighbours and Kaunas residents to come and hang out, take a walk and learn more.
The theme of the event was apples and everything about apples, from apples. Apples were not chosen by chance - T.Ivanauskas was particularly fond of Lithuanianness, and only Lithuanian apple trees grow in his orchard: Antaniniai, Pineapple, Vytis and others.
The griliai.lt team also visited the garden, treating visitors to dishes baked, boiled and smoked on COBB travel grills. After all, COBB Grill - is perfect for travelling and picnics, anywhere, anytime: it's light, easy to carry, compact, versatile. It can also be placed on the grass, a tree stump or even a tablecloth without fear of burning the grass, burning the leaves or damaging the tablecloth, and it is easy to move to a more comfortable location if needed.
Guests big and small enjoyed pancakes with caramelised Annamite apples from the nearby apple tree. Many people were surprised that the pancakes and apples were so tasty. It's not much of a secret: everything tastes better in nature, and a little salt and butter makes apple jam a real treat!
Baked apples are a dessert many remember from their childhood. But adding a little Weber apple chips the flavour becomes much fuller and more interesting!
For those for whom meat is the best dessert, we suggested apple juice and Knorr grill seasoning marinated, COBB grill grilled pork neck with apples and cherry tomatoes. We agree with those who say that new is old forgotten!
Another dish we grilled was chicken shoulders. Easy smell of apple smoke and fried apples made a seemingly ordinary and simple dish really stand out!
Thank you to the organisers for a great event, a warm welcome and a great time in a cosy, apple-scented environment.
